Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about practising for your UK driving theory test with TheoryPass.

Is TheoryPass free to use?+

Yes. TheoryPass is completely free. You can practise unlimited mock tests and category practice without paying anything. You can even start as a guest without creating an account.

Which languages does TheoryPass support?+

Every question, answer option and explanation is available in 10 languages alongside the English original: Turkish, Polish, Romanian, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Somali and Bengali. The entire menu and interface is also translated, and Arabic and Urdu are shown right-to-left.

How does the side-by-side translation work?+

During a test the question and answers appear in English on the left, exactly as they read in the real exam, and in your chosen language on the right. You can answer from either column, hide the translation to self-test in English, and read the explanation in your own language when you get a question wrong.

Are these the real DVSA exam questions?+

No. Real DVSA questions are copyrighted, so TheoryPass uses 350+ original practice questions written to match the official DVSA syllabus and the format and difficulty of the real car theory test. They are for study and revision only.

What is the pass mark for the UK car theory test?+

The multiple-choice part of the UK car theory test has 50 questions and you need 43 correct to pass (86%). TheoryPass mock tests use the same 50-question format and the same 43/50 pass threshold so you know where you stand.

What topics are covered?+

All 14 official DVSA categories are covered: Alertness, Attitude, Safety and Your Vehicle, Safety Margins, Hazard Awareness, Vulnerable Road Users, Other Types of Vehicle, Vehicle Handling, Motorway Rules, Rules of the Road, Road and Traffic Signs, Essential Documents, Incidents Accidents and Emergencies, and Vehicle Loading.

Do I need to create an account?+

No account is required to start — choose “Continue as Guest” and your progress is saved in your browser. Creating a free account (email or Google) saves your history permanently across devices, and any guest progress is migrated to your account when you sign up.

Can I practise road signs?+

Yes. The Road and Traffic Signs category shows a clear picture of each sign next to the question, so you learn to recognise warning, regulatory and information signs visually as well as in words.

Can I use TheoryPass on my phone?+

Yes. TheoryPass is mobile-first with large tap targets and a layout designed for studying on a phone. It works in any modern mobile or desktop browser — there is nothing to install.

How should I prepare for my test date?+

Add your booked test date to your profile to see a countdown. Start with a full mock test to find your weak areas, then use category practice on your lowest-scoring topics, flag tricky questions to review later, and repeat mock tests until you consistently score above 43/50.
